UCTV News develops content related to current events and local news. Members of the news department are encouraged to seek out stories relating to current campus events and entertainment events.
Being a member includes many aspects of news such as anchoring, writing, editing, control room/technology use, and camerawork. No previous camera or editing experience is needed!

News Director | Jen Ryu

Jen (JJ) Ryu is a sixth semester journalism major focusing on broadcast television. She is in her second year as news director and loves all things news, camera, and journalism. She brings an extensive amount of reporting experience and manages all content and production for the department’s weekly newscast. She has interned for The Walt Disney Company as a Disney College Program intern and WCSC-TV in Charleston, SC as a multimedia journalist intern.
Outside of UCTV, JJ is involved in WHUS Radio where she is a DJ and hosts her weekly show “Good Morning UConn” on Mondays at 9am. She also is the President for the UConn Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and a team leader for Jumpstart (a program to help kindergarten readiness in preschools).
When not working or in classes, JJ loves driving her car (Spencer) around and looking at sports cars. She is a huge fan of Formula 1 and the Transformers film series.
